Jonathan Hartshorn produces a large number and variety of clumsy and unsightly “handcrafted” framed paintings, whose serial motifs (flowers, dolphins, hearts...) seem to have been chosen for their extreme banality, amateurism, immaturity, and bad taste. He likes to say that Martha Stewart, the popular American TV host who specializes in homemade decorations, would be proud of him. The results are strangely endearing and totemic objects.

He produces in quantity, even if he does destroy a lot of his paintings (notwithstanding intentional humor, he is very demanding and emotionally involved), or abandons them in public places after arranging and photographing them.
